Now that we've installed the benchcoach bookmarket, let's go import our remote league. We're going to go through the steps of importing a yahoo league, but the process is the same for ESPN.
The first step is to use the league settings to create the league on benchcoach. The second step is to import all the current rosters into benchcoach.
First, let's import the settings.
Go to your league on Yahoo's site, and under the league nav menu, click on the settings tab. We're going to send this data to benchcoach so we can create your league. This will tell us what starting positions your league has, what scoring categories you compete in and if you are a rotisserie, points or head to head league. We support quite a few different league types. Activate the bookmarklet by clicking on it to send the information to benchcoach.
Depending upon a variety of factors outside of our control, this process can take a quite a few seconds. Importing league settings is generally quick.
We're back on benchcoach now and we need to review that we've loaded all the settings correctly. If you've already created a local league and you want to merge the remote league into it, select it in the dropdown box; otherwise we're going to create a new one. Double check the positions and the scoring statistics. You can always go back and reimport or change things manually later. Select "Setup my league" at the bottom of the page to create it.
Great! Your league settings are in! Now it's time for the second step of importing all of your league's rosters into benchcoach.
There's a link provided that moves you to the remote roster page where every player at every position on every team is listed. This is benchcoach's favorite page, and you'll regularly be going back and forth to keep this information up-to-date. Click on this link and let the remote page load.
Now, activate the bookmarklet a second time. A loading screen will popup, and this will take a bit more time than the first one. What's happening is that we're looking through all the roster information trying to matchup Yahoo or ESPN player information with our player information, and making sure that we have all the correct statistics for everyone. If we can't find any of your players, we'll list them out here. Please click the link to drop us a line if this happens.
Review and press confirm. What we're doing now is creating a new version of a roster for every team, and we're going to score those rosters using a bunch of different statistics. You should be able to see how your team will do this season if the players performed the same as their three year average; or what they are currently on pace for; or even based upon projections that you've entered yourself! If you've got a lot of teams with a lot of players, it can take a while to score.
You can also use the bookmarklet on benchcoach pages to take you to remote pages. If you are on the settings page, for example, the bookmarlet will redirect you to the league settings. On the league page, the bookmarklet will take you to the remote roster page. Isn't this easier than entering it all in by hand?
